OLA Calf Sale 24th October 16

OLA SHOW & SALE OF SUCKLED CALVES

The annual OLA show and sale of suckled calves took place at Orkney Auction Mart on Monday 24 October 2016. The show was judged by Mr Balfour Baillie and there were a good number of entries in most classes.

The overall champion and reserve calves were both black Limousin crosses that were bred and shown by Gladys and Alistair Linklater of Upper Braebuster, Deerness. The Champion was a steer out of a British Blue cow that was bought in from Denwick in Deerness and was sired by a Limouosin bull from Netherhill in Tankerness named “Hartlaw Hero”. He scaled 335kgs and sold for £1,020 (304.5p) to the judge. Reserve champion was a heifer out of the same bull scaling 315kgs and sold for £970 to a south buyer.
